Jim Carrey stars in the wildly outrageous tale of a spectacularly charismatic con man’s journey from small town businessman to flamboyant white collar criminal, who repeatedly finds himself in trouble with the law and on the lam-all in the name of love. Co-starring Ewan McGregor, I Love You Phillip Morris is the unbelievably true comedy from the creators of Bad Santa that’s being called “the best performance of Carrey’s career.” (DVD)
This is a weird ass movie. Point blank. I watched it last night and I still don’t know what to make of it. And yes, it is a true story, I read about this guy on cracked.com before I even saw the movie, in fact, that’s why I rented the movie. Jim Carrey is great as Steve, as the man who committed massive fraud, and Ewan McGregor is adorable as the soft spoken Phillip Morris, and the two of them actually have really good chemistry. The story itself is incredible, especially since it’s true, ESPECIALLY the ending scam. Holy crap. Overall, not a bad movie, some parts were really funny, and other parts were really sad and heartfelt. But this is one of those movies where you watch it once, and there’s no need to watch it again.
