So, like I mentioned when I watched Zodiac, I’m a sucker for true crime drama, and this one was recommended by a family member. And this one was…interesting, yet good, yet odd, yet a lot of things. It started off a little slow for me, yet once Gosling’s character had this character change about 45 minutes in, then it got interesting. Speaking of Ryan Gosling, he turns in a nice performance in this one. His character shift makes sense, and he handles it well. Then he does a good job of navigating the downward spiral that this character goes through. Kirsten Dunst also turns in a great performance as the wife. Actually, probably some of the best work I’ve seen from her in awhile. I just wish she had a better script to work with. I also enjoyed Frank Langella, who played a total dick. And then throw Kristen Wiig in randomly as a coke snorting wife, and we have ourselves a movie. In terms of the script, it had potential, obviously, but I think it didn’t really know what story it wanted to tell. Because it was about Katie Marks disappearance, but it was coupled with a murder trial of someone different, and it was slow in some parts, and it was not as exciting as it could have been. So, meh. Decent crime drama. Worth maybe one watch.
