Going the Distance

10 Dec

going the distanceA romantic comedy centered on a guy and a gal who try to keep their love alive as they shuttle back and forth between New York and San Francisco to see one another. (IMDb)

This is a nice refresher for the typical rom-com about long distance. Because the story itself is nothing new, it’s actually quite stale. What saves this movie is the dialogue between all the characters and the chemistry between Justin Long and Drew Barrymore. The two of them worked really well together. I also especially liked Charlie Day, as one of Garrett’s friends and Christina Applegate as Erin’s sister. These two were the funniest characters in the entire movie. It was these performances that saved this otherwise stale and overdone plot. Also, it bothered me that she was more willing to uproot her life for him than he was for her. In the end, this is a better than average rom-com that is still really enjoyable, despite its overly familiar storyline.
