Identity Thief

identity thiefMild-mannered businessman Sandy Patterson travels from Denver to Miami to confront the deceptively harmless-looking woman who has been living it up after stealing Sandy’s identity. (IMDb)

I heard mixed reviews on this one, but it was Melissa McCarthy and Jason Bateman, how bad could it be? And it wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t great. This is a completely average ridiculous road trip comedy. The only thing that saved it from being below average is Melissa McCarthy. Her performance in this is extremely well done. You actually feel for her and want her to succeed, even though she is a wanted criminal. I’ve never been disappointed in a Melissa McCarthy performance, and this is no exception. Jason Bateman on the other hand disappointed me a little bit. He has been playing the “mild mannered businessman” thing a lot lately, and they’re all the same person. Like his character from The Change-Up and this character could have switched and it would have been the same movie. I don’t know, I just wasn’t impressed. Like I said, this is nothing special, but it’s worth a few laughs, all thanks to Melissa McCarthy.
