Now You See Me

now you see meAn FBI agent and an Interpol detective track a team of illusionists who pull off bank heists during their performances and reward their audiences with the money. (IMDb)

I’ve been looking forward to this one since I saw the first trailer. Thankfully it didn’t disappoint. Quickly paced, well acted, awesome magic, I thought this was awesome. The team of Jesse Eisenberg, Isla Fisher, Woody Harrelson and Dave Franco are great together. There was great chemistry between all of them. Mark Ruffalo, Morgan Freeman, Melanie Laurent, and Michael Caine round out this awesome ensemble cast extremely well. On another note, the magic was so cool. The big first trick gets explained, but the other two don’t, and you’re still left in awe of how they do all of it. Using a mix of technology and the different styles of the four magicians creates an amazing show that you wish you could actually go and see. I only have a few nitpicky complaints. There were so many twists and turns that I started not believing anything that was happening on screen, and therefore guessing plot twists (I got the big ending one at the top of the scene where it was revealed), then it spent so long setting up the big third act, but when we finally got there, it rushed to the conclusion that you really had to pay attention to keep up with how everything was playing out, and the romance subplot with Ruffalo and Clement was really unnecessary. It would have been the exact same movie without it. In the end though, this is an awesome summer movie. And I think my sister sums it up best though, it was magic inception.
