Snow White and the Huntsman

snow white and the huntsmanIn a twist to the fairy tale, the Huntsman ordered to take Snow White into the woods to be killed winds up becoming her protector and mentor in a quest to vanquish the Evil Queen. (IMDb)

So. This whole dark fairy tale thing. There’s always some solid ideas, but not enough execution. And this is no different. I see what director Rupert Sanders was going for, especially in some of the more darker moments, but for some reason, this didn’t quite do it for me. It was just ok. I didn’t hate any of the acting from the leads, but I also wasn’t blown away either. Kristen Stewart and Chris Hemsworth try their hardest, but Stewart just doesn’t quite fit the world and therefore Hemsworth is caught looking like he doesn’t match up with the lead because he does/can fit the world. Charlize Theron was fun in some parts, melodramatic and screechy in others. The special effects and fight scenes were cool, and I found myself wanting more of them. Also, maybe I just didn’t suspend my disbelief enough, but how could Snow White kill Ravenna in the end if Ravenna has healing powers? And other fun little plot holes like that. In the end, this is watchable, but it’s not amazing or anything.
