MV5BMjMyMDczMzU1OV5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwMzMwNzk1OA@@._V1_SX214_AL_As his lover announces her pregnancy, a fortysomething slacker receives other life-changing news: 142 people, all of them the result of artificial insemination, have filed a class action lawsuit against him, their biological father. (IMDb)

This French-Canadian movie is actually the basis for the 2013 Vince Vaughn movie Delivery Man. (And by basis, it looks exactly the same, just with different actors and in English. i’ll have to see to really find out though.) What surprised me the most about this was how heartfelt it was. The “slacker turning his life around” thing is done a lot, but mostly for comedic effect. Don’t get me wrong, parts of this are quite funny, but you actually find yourself really rooting for him. Patrick Huard is great as David, aka Starbuck. He balanced the comedy and the drama of the script really well. Overall, this is a cute movie that makes me want to watch the American version. And that’s saying something.
